Is Salad Hard To Digest?
Believe it or not, raw vegetables are much harder to digest because of the amount of fiber they contain.
Most fresh fruits and vegetables contain a healthy amount of nutrients and are easy to digest, but the following can upset your stomach or lead to constipation:
- Dried Fruits
- Frozen/Thawed Berries
- Potato Skins
- Dried Beans
- Avocados (in excess)
Even some meats and nuts that you’d add to your salad can block you up.
Salad may be a great choice for many people on the planet, but certain people will notice a strange pattern of bloating and indigestion.

What Do Dietitians Say About Salads & Digestion?

The body creates an enzyme called cellulase to help breakdown cellulose, but an unhealthy gut may not be able to produce enough cellulase to break down raw vegetables and fruits properly.

In simpler terms, some people with food allergies, insensitivities, or an imbalanced gut may have issues with digestion leading to gas and discomfort.
