Suffering from a keto-flu? Want to get away from the feeling of nausea, headache, and other symptoms? To feel better fast and get relieved of those side effects of keto-flu, consume electrolytes – electrolyte drinks are the easiest form of consumption.

It might sound very technical, but a ketogenic diet is nothing but a low-carbohydrate, although a high-fat diet with moderate levels of protein allowing to achieve the optimum level of nutritional ketosis. It is not rocket science, but ‘ketosis’ is simply a process, where ketone bodies from fat are utilized for fuel in the replacement of glucose.

Now, what exactly is keto flu? When does it occur and how to take measures to become healthy once it happens? The keto-flu is a collection of symptoms associated with the body when it adapts to a ketogenic diet.

The body takes some time to make its adjustments, and something occurring is pretty common. Nausea, headache, fatigue, these are some common symptoms of keto-flu. What basically happens here is the fact that there is not enough attention paid to electrolytes in a ketogenic diet.

What Are Electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals in the body, necessary for the proper functioning of your heart, muscles, and nerves. They carry out and regulate a number of processes, such as maintaining the blood’s chemistry and muscle action. They are obtained from either food or drink. Making a sugar-free, homemade drink after finding out the best keto protein powder, which suits the body, is the best.

It is healthy, requires minimal effort, has a negligible cost, and gets rid of too much sugar or an unwanted ingredient, which would come along with a sports drink or commercial electrolyte drink.

Contents of the Electrolyte Drink

How to make a homemade keto electrolyte drink? The recipe to make a keto electrolyte drink should include the following ingredients:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • No sugar, as it is a keto electrolyte drink.

 Making the Keto Electrolyte Drink

  • Take 6 cups of water – which translates to approximately 1.5 liters
  • The juice of one medium lemon
  • Half tablespoon potassium chloride
  • Magnesium supplement
  • Mix all the ingredients properly, stir it nicely.

Your keto electrolyte drink is ready.

Staying Hydrated

Ketogenic diets might have dehydration as a side effect. For e.g., on a keto diet, the excretion of salt is higher. Salt and water are inversely related. Hence, less water retention happens when more salt is lost. In fact, research also suggests that if ketone bodies are lost excessively at the beginning, which can also cause dehydration, thus you need to keep yourself hydrated well.

If you overdo, you can also suffer from over-hydration, therefore, you should ideally try to consume as much water as your body needs and can store in your stomach. Thus, homemade electrolyte drink for dehydration also takes dehydration away.

There is no denying the multitude of benefits that an electrolyte drink provides on removing a keto-flu away. However, you should also ensure that you prioritize your keto levels, as you might feel lethargic, have headaches, or suffer from brain fog. Therefore, prioritize, plan, and get started.
