Top 5 Essential Oils To Help Sinus Congestion

One of the best nasal treatment essential oil, which was brought into the public eye by Captain James Cook, who claimed Australia for the British Kingdom. Because of its antiseptic properties, tea tree oil even started getting used in world wars.

If you suffer from a sore throat, add some drops (2 – 3) of tea tree essential oil in a glass of water, gargle, and spit – the mixture shouldn’t be swallowed.

3. Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus is often as praised as one of the most useful trees of the world. Eucalyptus essential oil was first distilled in 1788, where it was used for chest and bronchial issues.

When it was introduced to Europe, people came to know it for anti-microbial properties, and it was popularly known as ‘Sydney Peppermint’.

4. Peppermint Essential Oil

This oil is extracted from the leaves of ‘Mentha Piperita’ aka peppermint. It contains menthol – a very important organic compound used for health problems. The compound has a mild seductive property which helps in the treatment of sinus problems.

The peppermint essential oil is known to act as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and as an antifungal agent.

It is advised to use a carrier oil like Caster oil, Tamanu or Jojoba because peppermint oil alone rather behaves as a toxic. Search for a carrier oil which does not have a distinct aroma because you would want the true essence of peppermint oil.

5. Oregano Essential Oil

This oil is obtained via extraction of oregano leaf, through the process of steam distillation. In ancient Greece, the oil was used to treat infection and protecting the food against bacteria.

The two most important ingredients in Oregano essential oil are thymol and carvacrol, both of them have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Functioning as a potent antibiotic source, it helps the body by strengthening the immune system and helps in the production of white blood cells.

Note: Oregano essential oil is a very powerful oil and should be diluted with a carrier oil before using it. Dilute it with the likes of Jojoba and Olive oil before applying on body areas.

Unlike other oils, this oil can be ingested too. You can add small amounts in food. But, if you want to take it in isolation, mix 1:1 ratio of oregano essential oil with olive or coconut oil.
