10 Health Benefits Of Honey: Inside & Out

Honey is not only a delicious food but also a good choice to eliminate many health problems. Keep in mind that children under a year and people with food allergies shouldn’t consume honey.

In ancient times, honey was a valuable product and it was even used for payment instead of gold. Honey has antibacterial, dietary, and anti-inflammatory properties.

1. Honey Mask Against Acne

A facial honey mask will help get rid of dark spots and redness on the face. You simply need to carefully mix one tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of olive oil.

Apply the mixture on the face, and after 20 minutes, rinse it with warm water. Honey cleans the pores and makes your skin shiny and bright.

2. Honey Against GERD

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is an inflammation of the esophagus which is accompanied by heartburn. Honey is able to normalize and relieve acidity problems. You need to take one teaspoon of honey an hour before meals twice a day.

3. Honey Against Stomatitis 

Honey relieves the symptoms of stomatitis and helps to cope with minor inflammations. Moisten a piece of cotton wool with water and use it to wipe the sores in the mouth. Then apply a little honey with a cotton swab on them. Repeat this procedure several times a day.

4. Honey Against Cough 

Mix half a teaspoon of instant coffee and two teaspoons of honey in a cup of warm water. Drink it three times a day. Honey softens the throat and relieves it of irritation while caffeine expands the bronchi which makes breathing easier.

5. Honey Against Hemorrhoids 

Make an ointment from one teaspoon of honey, two tablespoons of olive oil and two tablespoons of beeswax. Apply it to the sore spot twice a day. This will reduce pain, rectal bleeding, and irritation.

6. Honey Against Eczema & Seborrheic Dermatitis 

Eczema leads to skin tightness, redness, itching and, as a result, bleeding wounds. Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis appear on the face and head. To relieve them, apply a bandage with honey daily to the affected area and leave on for three hours.

7. Honey Against Flu 

Honey will also help relieve flu symptoms since it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. One study found that honey was effective in relieving coughing as a symptom of cold in children over the age of one.

Eat one tablespoon of honey every three hours or you can stir honey into warm water and add a piece of lemon. 

8. Honey Against Insomnia

Dissolve one tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm milk and drink it before going to sleep. You can also add vanilla or cinnamon for flavor.

Milk contains melatonin and tryptophan which have calming properties and normalize sleep. While honey stimulates the production of insulin which helps tryptophan to get into the brain faster.

9. Honey Against Cuts 

Put a bandage with honey on the cut or scratch to prevent infection. Honey has antibacterial properties due to a protein contained in it which is called defensin. This protein is a part of the immune system of bees. Therefore, honey dehydrates and destroys bacteria.

10. Honey After Workouts

Honey normalizes blood sugar levels after physical activity. If you eat one tablespoon of honey during training, you can improve your athletic performance.
